Background

Andy was born in Scotland and in those formative years taken on trips to the glens and lochs of the Highlands and to the Western Isles where a love of the outdoors was forged. At the start of the 1980's Andy discovered amateur radio which launched a lifelong interest in radio and communications technologies. In the early 1980's, at the birth of the desktop computing age, Andy started working as an IT software developer and has continued to work with IT ever since. With radio/communications skills, IT skills and a passion for the outdoors Andy overwintered at Halley station in Antarctica in 1990/91 whilst working for the British Antarctic Survey. Andy took his first camera, a Canon AV-1, to Antarctica where his passion for the outdoors coincided with photography and seeded the realisation that the outdoors and difficult to reach locations could be shared with others through photographs. On return Andy started rock climbing and mountaineering, interests that led to even greater exploration of the outdoors. Sometime in the late 1990's the passion for the outdoors and interest in photography merged and Andy can now be found in the outdoors with a camera capturing its beauty in photographs that can be shared with others.
