In June 2011 on a day trip along the North Somerset coast I stopped at Clevedon and its Victorian era pier a while before sunset. It was the end of a long warm summer day and there was a haze in the sky which I thought may make for some warm colours around sunset. As the sun set lower, the sky started to turn a beautiful orange/pink colour. Closer to the horizon the clouds were a little thicker and provided just enough light attenuation that the sun’s yellow disk could be photographed as it slipped behind the pier and down to Wales on the distant horizon.
